QUALITY CONTROL

Testing that supports consistent cable production

Selcoplast’s laboratory procedures cover electrical, thermal, dimensional and marking checks used to verify key cable characteristics during production.

FACTORY LABORATORY Six documented verification stages

Insulation resistance, heat resistance, high-voltage withstand, insulation thickness, conductor resistance and printed-marking continuity.

LABORATORY SCOPE

Verification across electrical, thermal and physical properties.

The documented Selcoplast laboratory procedures focus on measurements that directly affect cable performance and manufacturing consistency. Each procedure below keeps the original technical meaning while presenting the method and acceptance point more clearly.

01Electrical

Insulation resistance, high-voltage withstand and conductor resistance.

02Thermal

Heat-resistance checks after controlled oven exposure.

03Dimensional

Outer-diameter and insulation-thickness measurements.

04Marking

Verification of spacing between repeated printed signs.

DOCUMENTED PROCEDURES

Six key laboratory checks.

Insulation Resistance View image
01
ELECTRICAL

Insulation Resistance

  • Use a 5 m sample immersed in water at 70 °C for two hours.
  • Measure insulation resistance between one end of the sample and the water after one minute at 500 V.
  • The measured value should not be below the stated IEC 60227 requirement.
Heat Resistance View image
02
THERMAL

Heat Resistance

  • Wind the sample around a cylinder in small steps and place it in an oven at 150 °C for one hour.
  • Allow the sample to return to room temperature before inspection.
  • The sample passes when no cracking is observed.
High Voltage Test View image
03
ELECTRICAL

High Voltage Test

  • Immerse a 10 m sample in water for one hour, keeping both ends outside the water.
  • Apply 2500 V between one end of the sample and the water for five minutes.
  • The sample passes when no insulation breakdown occurs.
Insulation Thickness View image
04
DIMENSIONAL

Insulation Thickness

  • Take three samples with at least one metre between sampling points.
  • Measure outer diameter, then measure insulation thickness at six points on each sample.
  • Use the average of the eighteen thickness readings and compare it with the applicable requirement.
Conductor Resistance View image
05
ELECTRICAL

Conductor Resistance

  • Prepare and measure one metre of conductor using an ohmmeter.
  • Correct the measured resistance to 20 °C using the temperature correction factor.
  • The value should not exceed the values referenced in IEC 60228 tables 2 and 3.
Continuity of Printed Signs View image
06
MARKING

Continuity of Printed Signs

  • Measure from the end of one printed sign to the beginning of the next.
  • The documented maximum spacing is 55 cm for sheathed cables.
  • The documented maximum spacing is 27.5 cm for non-sheathed cables.
QUALITY WORKFLOW

A simple verification sequence.

01Prepare

Select and prepare the defined sample length.

02Condition

Apply the specified water, temperature or preparation condition.

03Measure

Carry out the electrical, dimensional or marking measurement.

04Verify

Compare the result with the stated acceptance requirement.
